Martha joined Five Mile River Nursery School in 2008. She has been teaching for 30 years, having joined the field in the summer after graduating from Denison.
Martha started as an assistant teacher at the Bank Street College Family Center, then in the 3's classroom at the Bank Street School for Children and also as the Head Teacher for the 4's/5's in the Bank Street Summer Camp. During this same time, she took night courses towards her Master's in Early Childhood Education at Bank Street College of education. The thrill of Miss Martha's career was having her 88 year old grandmother, founder of the Bank Street School for Children, present her diploma at her Bank Street graduation.
After three years at Bank Street, she moved to Greenwich Village and was Head Teacher at the University Plaza Nursery School, a parent co-op school for children of NYU faculty and staff. She later moved to Greenwich, CT where she supervised the North Street Elementary School Afterschool Program and 5th grade math. She then worked for two years as Head Teacher for the 4's at Greenwich Academy before taking a leave to start her own family.
She moved to Rowayton with her husband Peter in 1991 and had twins Henry and Emily. She has served as co-chair of the Rowayton Parents Exchange, a board member of FMRNS, President of the Rowayton Elementary School PTA and fulfilled a four-year term on the Rowayton Civic Association.
