Accreditation

Five Mile River Nursery School (FMRNS) was privileged to be the first program in the State of CT, and one of the first seventeen in the nation to be reaccredited under the new NAEYC Standards.  The new standards require programs to meet 80% of over 400 strict criteria in Ten Standards to be awarded Accreditation.  FMRNS met the criteria by an average score of 98%  Accreditation is valid for 5 years.  Programs committed to accreditation meet the highest standards for quality in education for young children, birth through age eight.

All NAEYC Accredited Programs must:

  • Promote positive relationships for all children and adults.

  • Implement a curriculum that fosters all areas of child development-cognitive, emotional, language, physical and social.

  • Use developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate and effective teaching approaches.

  • Provide ongoing assessments of child progress.

  • Promote the nutrition and health of children and staff.

  • Employ and support qualified teaching staff.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with and use resources of the community.

  • Provide a safe and healthy physical environment.

  • Implement strong program management policies that result in high-quality service.
